Two lanes of Interstate 90 were closed at the intersection of Highway 151 on Madison’s East Side. All southbound lanes of Interstate 39 were briefly closed at mile marker 146 because of a vehicle crash, according to the Wisconsin State Patrol. The road was closed due to power lines crossing the road.Plows Prepare For StormMeanwhile, Madison Streets Division crews are gearing up for another round of snow. On Friday morning, city officials will have 32 crews ready to go as soon as the snow starts and about 70 plows out as the day progresses.”With single digits, what happens is, the salt really don’t work and if you put it down,” said Chris Kelley, the head of the Streets Division. “It could freeze up quicker, so we went with plowing and sanding all of our main streets.”Kelley said that the city will have 175 units out at midnight Friday night, including city plows and contractors.”It’s going to be the light fluffy snow, so it would be easy plowing,” Kelley said. “We shouldn’t have any issues with that. It will fly a little bit when we do plow because it will be so light, but there should be no problems if people slow down and give themselves time to get to work, give them time to stop, they shouldn’t have any problems.”The city has declared a snow emergency and expects to have all residential streets cleared by 7 a.m. on Saturday.Click on the following links to receive email or cellphone alerts for severe weather or school closing information. For the latest weather information, visit Channel 3000′s Weather section.Stay tuned to WISC-TV and Channel 3000 for continuing coverage.
